This Bookkeeping qualification teaches learners how to record financial transactions, reconcile accounts, manage payroll/returns (such as PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT), and prepare basic financial statements for small to medium‑sized businesses. It’s aimed at entrants to the financial support and bookkeeping field, providing a base for further accounting or financial studies.

Objectives

  • Record day‑to‑day financial transactions and maintain ledgers and journals.
  • Reconcile bank statements, supplier and debtor accounts, and inventory/bookkeeping systems.
  • Compile and understand a trial balance and basic financial statements.
  • Process payroll, statutory returns (PAYE, UIF, SDL, EMP201, EMP501) and VAT returns.
  • Use computerized bookkeeping software and business literacy skills. For higher levels: interpret financial statements, apply cost/management accounting.
Course requirements

No pre-requisites requirements, but basic knowledge in accounting is highly recommended.
